When to Use It

LinkedIn's professional framing is exactly why scammers use it. A "recruiter" reaches out out of the blue with a role that pays far more than the market rate for minimal work, and starts asking for personal or banking details before any real interview happens. A profile claims a job title, employer, or degree that seems inconsistent with what a quick search turns up. Someone in your network sends a connection request that looks like a duplicate of a person you are already connected to.

A LinkedIn scan checks profile age, employment and education claims, connection patterns, and known impersonation or recruiter-scam indicators together. It exists to help you verify a recruiter or profile before you hand over personal information or sign anything, not to screen candidates for hiring decisions. This tool is not built or positioned for employment background checks, credit decisions, or tenant screening; for those regulated uses, an employer needs a compliant background-check process, not this scan.

Understanding Your Results

A clean scan means the profile did not trigger our indicators for synthetic identity, inconsistent claims, or known recruiter-scam patterns. It does not certify that every credential listed is accurate; it means nothing we checked contradicted the profile.

A flagged result should be read the same cautious way. A profile photo that reverse-searches to a stock site or another name is a strong indicator by itself. A job history that does not line up with a quick search of the claimed employer is worth combining with other signals rather than treated as final proof of fraud. The pattern that actually matters is corroboration: two or three signals pointing the same direction carry far more weight than any one flag on its own.

If a "recruiter" has already asked you to pay for equipment, training, or a background check before starting a job, treat that as a serious warning sign on its own. Genuine employers do not ask candidates to pay them.
