When to Use It

X accounts get used for impersonation in a few recognizable ways. An account copies a real public figure's name, photo, and blue-check-style badge, then replies to that person's posts pushing a crypto giveaway or airdrop link. A "support" account DMs you claiming to be from a company you use, asking you to verify your account by clicking a link. A stranger's account has thousands of followers but every reply under its posts reads like it was written by the same handful of accounts.

A scan checks account age, follower authenticity, posting patterns, and known impersonation or scam signals in one pass, so you are not trying to eyeball engagement numbers or guess whether a badge is genuine. It is meant to help you verify an account before you click a link, send crypto, or trust a DM, not to monitor or track someone who has not contacted you.

Understanding Your Results

A clean result means the account did not trigger our indicators for bot-like activity, impersonation, or known scam patterns. It is a signal, not a certification that the account is exactly who it claims to be.

A flagged result works the same way. A sudden, unnatural spike in followers combined with generic, repetitive replies is a moderate signal. A profile photo that reverse-searches to a different name entirely is a strong one on its own. Reading these signals together, rather than reacting to any single one, is what turns a scan into an actual judgment call you can trust.

If an account has already asked you to send cryptocurrency to "verify" a giveaway or claim a prize, that alone is a strong enough signal to stop and walk away, regardless of how convincing the account looks.

Why WebVetted

Verified-badge abuse and airdrop impersonation scams on X rely on an account looking convincing at a glance, blue check and all. WebVetted checks account age, engagement authenticity, image history, and known impersonation complaints together instead of leaving you to manually verify each of those separately.

We are a registered LLC operating since 2021, keep scans private by default, and build every report to be evidence-ready if you need to report a scam to the platform, your bank, or law enforcement.

Questions people ask before trusting a Twitter account

How can you tell if an X (Twitter) account is a bot?

Look for an account that posts or replies at a volume no person could sustain, generic replies that repeat across many different threads, and an engagement ratio (likes and reposts vs. followers) that looks unnaturally uniform. A scan checks posting cadence and engagement patterns together.

How do I know if a verified account is impersonating someone?

Compare the account's join date, post history, and bio links against the real person's or organization's known official account. Impersonators often have a much newer account, thinner history, or bio links to unrelated sites. A reverse image check on the profile photo also helps confirm a mismatch.

Are crypto giveaway replies from "verified" accounts ever legitimate?

No legitimate account or company asks you to send cryptocurrency first to receive more back. This pattern is a scam every time, regardless of how official the account looks.

How do I report a fake or scam X account?

Report it directly through X's in-app reporting tools first. If you sent money or crypto, also file a report with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.
