Look closely at backgrounds (warped lines, blended edges), symmetry (mismatched earrings or collar details), eyes and glasses (unnatural reflections or misaligned frames), and teeth or fine edges (blurred or smeared detail). An AI image scan checks all of these patterns at once rather than relying on the eye alone.

What is catfishing and how does it usually start?

Catfishing is when someone creates a fake identity online, often using a stolen or AI-generated photo, to build trust before asking for money or personal information. It typically follows a pattern: fast declarations of affection, a reason they cannot meet or video call, and eventually a request for financial help. The FTC's guidance on romance scams and the FBI's romance scam resource both cover this pattern in detail.

Is it possible for a real, unedited photo to still get flagged?

Yes, and this is exactly why the tool gives you signals rather than a verdict. Certain lighting conditions, filters, or camera processing can occasionally produce artifacts that resemble AI-generation cues. Treat a flag as a reason to look closer or run a companion reverse image lookup, not as a final answer on its own.
